Virtual worlds are the future of the internet. Already there are estimated to be more than 250 either live or in development and the number is increasing all the time. We currently specialise in Second Life – one of the largest and best known virtual worlds – because it offers the greatest potential for user generated content and has the broadest user base. We're at the forefront of development in this field and are one of less than 20 UK based companies to be officially recognised by Linden Labs (makers of Second Life) as full-service solution providers for the platform. We’re working with both the education and business communities to create immersive environments that satisfy real needs. Detailed textures, motion captured animation, lifelike avatars, scripted objects, live events and conferences, streaming media and topographically accurate terrains are all delivered with our trademark originality and attention to detail. As The Guardian newspaper said of our Richard Hawley project (see below) 'it has a humour, warmth and ability to hold your interest that's decidedly rare in Second Life.'

We've built a space that takes the idea of ‘the 3d web’ literally, using the familiar website paradigm of top level and secondary navigation to determine the design of a ‘physical’ structure in Second Life, creating an environment where navigation is intuitive and rational. We have created an ‘impossible’ structure that is based around a tower. The tower is accessed by a lift and forms the backbone of the site where each colour coded level represents the top level navigation. From each level the visitor can access a number of modular spaces. These represent the secondary navigation. Visitors land at a central hub (or home page). Phase 1 of this development includes the central hub, two seminar rooms and a sandbox where visitors can create their own content. Phase 2 currently in development will include a bookshop where visitors can browse and buy university publications and modules for each of the school’s individual departments.

Mute Records commissioned us to develop an 'island' for their priority artist Richard Hawley and our key aim was to create an experience that generates a real sense of personal engagement. His real-life house appears as if wrenched from the streets of Sheffield and dumped on a desert island littered with carrier bags and beer cans. Inside you can watch his videos, play his favourite music (on a retro jukebox), see his books (and buy them on an Amazon Affiliate site) and find out what's cooking in the kitchen. You can buy his Gretsch Guitar complete with his motion captured hand movements. You can recreate the cover of his latest album with you in place of Richard – then take a photo to send to your friends. At live in-world performances we use motion capture & audio streaming to create a truly lifelike avatar just like the real Richard.
